Icon of Doubt and Honesty

There is a custom in some Christian settings, that on the Sunday after Easter there is a Biblical reading featuring the so-called Doubting Thomas.  In the big picture, Thomas is probably a more admirable figure than conventionally portrayed.  And no matter if one is Christian or not, his skepticism presents a lesson most people could benefit from.  He may be the Doubting Thomas, but he is also named Saint Thomas.

Derek and his husband live in Richmond, Indiana where Derek wears multiple hats.  He is pastor to the Universalist Church in rural Eldorado, Ohio.  He is assistant director at Open Arms Ministries; a faith-based non-profit working to protect low-income families from rental evictions and utility shut-offs.  And if that wasn’t enough on his plate, he is also a doctoral student in Religion and the Humanities through Harrison Middleton University.
