Since 1996, the Unitarian Universalist Community Church of Hendricks County has made a lasting impact on the people of central Indiana by living and acting on our beliefs, which are centered in love and include justice, equity, generosity, interdependence, pluralism, and transformation.

Who you will find here

We are a community that embraces freedom of thought and we come together to encourage each other to spiritual growth that makes for peace, ethical living, and community service. In fact, we speak these words each Sunday as part of our covenant.

Our membership includes about 35-40 active members (and growing), as well as about 100 members and friends who occasionally attend services or activities, stay up-to-date on news, and align themselves with our purpose. Regular Sunday attendance is around 25 (and growing!), plus children in religious exploration.

What you will do here

We offer a range of activities outside of Sunday services, which include: hosting a Singing Resistance pod, Poetry Night, Pagan Group, Laughter Yoga, game nights, a gardening group, potlucks, and more. On Sundays in addition to our 10 a.m. service, we have a 9 a.m. Breakfast Club discussion group, and an 11 a.m. Coffee Hour (where even more discussion happens). Visitors are welcome to drop in for any or all of the activities. On the schedule soon: a monthly craft night, a caroling group, a dinner club, and opening our church library to the public.

Who we are

In the three decades of presence Danville, UUCCHC has engaged in transformative initiatives such as:

• an all-denominational Underwear Drive supplying garments to those in need;
• Christmas Day Dinner where members delivered a fresh, hot meal to hundreds of homes on Christmas morning;
• the annual LGBTQ rally on the square that continued until marriage equality was made legal;
• and so much more.

Whether it’s through a national undertaking such as Guest at Your Table or a local initiative supporting the Shared Blessings Food Pantry, UUCCHC members have been champions of helping others.

Our church community has been the incubator for several long-lasting programs and organizations, serving as a location where like-minded people come together in shared values. Members of UUCCHC helped found:

• the McCloud Nature Park,
• the Alliance for Diversity,
• Hendricks County Pride,
• and Family Promise.

Our members have served and continue to lead organizations throughout the county in social justice, the arts, education, advocacy and politics. Through service and ethical living rooted in Unitarian Universalist ideals, the church continues to contribute to a stronger, more compassionate Hendricks County.

We are people of many beliefs and backgrounds: people with a religious background and people with none; people who believe in a God, people who don’t, and people who let the mystery be. We are diverse in faith, ethnicity, history, and spirituality, but aligned in our desire to make a difference for the good. We need not think alike to love alike.
