Don’t Know and Don’t Care

… Lethargy or Logic?

Throughout our lives we learn to loathe the mindset of apathy, often viewing those who just don’t care about an issue as insensitive or intellectually lazy. Leo Buscaglia said, “The opposite of love is not hate — it’s apathy. It’s not giving a damn.” And Bishop Fulton J. Sheen said of apathy, ”It is a silent acquiescence to evil.” But are there situations when apathy might be a logical and appropriate attitude, particularly regarding some of the great questions of religion?
