That was the question we discussed at service yesterday, following our viewing of the General Assembly closing sermon and reflections from our GA delegates Sarah Ratekin (who shared via video, link below) and Joseph Ridenour (you had to be there to hear his).

It was a robust conversation that spilled into coffee hour. We had a great time yesterday! For me, it was a bit of a surprise. First, I wasn’t supposed to be there (my end-of-vacation plans changed so I could be). Second, I had assumed July 5 – being the Sunday of a 3- or 4-day weekend for most AND the day after late night fireworks and storms – would be one of our lightest attended days of the year. It was not – in fact, it was average attendance, with a delightful visiting family.

One thing I heard clearly reflected from the congregation was a desire to be present in the community as UUs, living our beliefs – through volunteer opportunities and community events. Some things mentioned were: volunteering as a group at a food pantry or soup kitchen; doing a road cleanup day; and collaborating on projects with likeminded churches.
