“It may seem paradoxical that adults who approach life like a child would more likely become wise. Many wisdom teachings throughout the centuries focus on the curiosity of children as the way to peace, peacemaking during conflict, whether it is in an intimate relationship or between nations. Elders listen for the basic needs of those who come to them with an open and curious mind. When children are curious, they ask questions, explore, discover, and play. When adults can show up for each other, listen with curiosity, speak their truth, and detach from prescribed outcomes, they are more likely to develop empathy and ways forward that create community and intimacy.”
