Sunday Service Musicians

http://yookyoungyong.com/product/teapot-red/ This article isn’t for everyone, but you KNOW who you are! You are one of those “closet” musicians—someone who plays an instrument but very few people know it. Or you might have an instrument in the closet that hasn’t been played in a while; but with a little practice, it could be. C’mon, dust off that instrument and please read on….

Kamienna Góra With very rare exceptions, the music for each Sunday service is provided by a volunteer musician from within our congregation. These musicians play on a rotating basis, with each of us taking approximately one Sunday per month. But what happens when a musician is not available to fill his/her turn(s) in the rotation? Well, one of two things must happen:

  1. We must choose which services will go without music
  2. Our musicians must stretch and cover more services

Thus far we have never accepted option #1. But there have been times when the same person has had to cover music more than once or twice a month—sometimes in consecutive weeks. That happened because he/she was “stretching” to cover a week when no one else was available.

Selecting and rehearsing appropriate music for a Sunday service is interesting and usually enjoyable. Doing so for more than one Sunday at a time can be quite stressful.

If you are willing to help us ensure that UUCCHC has music each Sunday, we would sure appreciate your help. If you can join the regular rotation and play once every 5-6 weeks, great! If you aren’t ready to commit to the rotation but willing to provide music once every other month or once per quarter, that’s great too.

Please contact Sam Carman (scarman@tds.net) and let him know that there are some tunes inside you that are just waiting to get out. You will make several musicians very happy!
