Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) is a community’s response to the dehumanization of people for being true to themselves. It has evolved from a time solely to recognize lives senselessly taken into an opportunity to honor those who have carved paths through a brutal wilderness, to heal from the wounds of fear & hate, to reconnect with resilience, and to give voice to the beauty and joy of being gender-diverse. The meaning & evolution of TDOR is a story that is instructive for any of us (or for those whom we love) who, for whatever reason, are cast to the side for being perceived as “different” from a powerfully controlled narrative.
