We will move on to examine the reasons why labor has declined since the 1980s and why a labor movement is still necessary.

Richard Schneirov is a historian of labor and working-class history at Indiana State University. He has published six books and many articles in that field. He has also been president of his campus chapter and the state body of the American Association of University Professors, which functions in many respects as a union.
