Gol’yanovo Have you ever spotted a vehicle moving slowly down the road in December that was filled with people who were using binoculars and spotting scopes to look in people’s backyards. Either they were scoping out the neighborhood for a big heist or they were participating in Audubon’s Christmas Bird Count. First proposed by Frank Chapman in 1900, who suggested that Audubon Society members replace Christmas side hunts with an annual bird census, the CBC is the world’s longest running citizen science project. Warren Grody will discuss his participation in the CBC, the value of citizen science and the joy of watching birds generally.
