Are you troubled by the lack of civility in modern America? Would you like to think more deeply about American greatness and the qualities that make it possible? The next speaker of the series on Sunday, July 14th will be Jane Henegar who will address the topic “A Bastille Day Toast: Vive la America! May we live up to her potential.”

On July 14th, 1789, the people of Paris, “intoxicated with liberty and enthusiasm,” according to Francois Mignet, stormed the Bastille — an act that propelled the French Revolution and united the French people. Just a few months earlier, the American people were similarly euphoric when they commenced their audacious endeavor to “form a more perfect Union.” Our greatness, if achievable, depends on our sustained ambition and enthusiasm for holding ourselves accountable to America’s potential.

Since 2012, Jane Henegar has had the good fortune of serving as the executive director of the ACLU of Indiana. Before her current job of holding government accountable to the promises of the Constitution, Jane worked in government. She worked as a deputy mayor of Indianapolis for Mayor Bart Peterson and in state and federal government for Governor, and then Senator, Evan Bayh.

The series is being held the second and fourth Sunday evenings of each month from April 14th through September 22nd and is coordinated by Philip Gulley.  Each session will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will feature a knowledgeable speaker on that evening’s topic. More information can be found in the series announcement.
