Carvings from the Board

Pacasmayo Jeff and I spoke to Rosie on August 9th when we were just trying to figure out how to get started on this renewal, and one of the things she suggested was that we should occasionally have a listening Sunday.

where to order prednisone I spoke with Rosie for a little while this (Wednesday) evening and I asked if she thought we were ready for a  listening Sunday. She pointed out that last Sunday, when we talked about why we came to UU and UUCCHC, and why we stayed, was a listening Sunday. She explained how important it is to realize that any time we come together to share what we think, and listen to one another about the church in any way, is part of the renewal process. We learn about each other and become closer, which helps us to work together to better create our future together! A large part of completing this effort is coming together. I started add more after together, but I stopped because I recognized that the essence of renewing our congregation is just that, coming together, with all of the many simple and complex meanings of that phrase!

And all of this means that this is not me listening to you all, but all of us listening to one another, to become connected and closer and in stronger community.

This conversation also reminded me that I am the president of the board, not the governor of the congregation. This was a recognition of our founding fathers, when writing the constitution in 1787. They did not want to give the new leader of the United State too much power, so they called him a president rather than a governor, because a governor governs, but a president  presides. As Board President, I preside over the board, it doesn’t report to me. And in the congregation, I don’t govern, I am just another member, maybe with a little more information about what’s going on. And please don’t forget that board meetings are open to members, except for the very rare executive session. Come visit us – this Sunday after coffee hour (around noon), and on every second Sunday of the month.
