Religious Exploration: A Cooperative Approach

Our Religious Exploration (RE) program is driven by a team effort. The part-time Director of Religious Exploration (DRE) works in collaboration with the RE committee, a team of teachers, and other adult volunteers to ensure that children have a positive and illuminating experience at UUCC.

A strong religious exploration committee helps to chart the course for each academic year and summer program. The members bring their own expertise and insights into creating, maintaining, and growing our RE program in conjunction with the needs of our members and friends. The committee meets approximately every six weeks and is open to anyone who has interest or an idea to share.

Some RE committee members and other adult volunteers commit to teaching, spending regularly scheduled Sunday mornings downstairs exploring with our young people. Theologically curious and innovative, these teachers seek to engage the children with facts and flashlights to shine on the truths uncovered along our spiritual journey.

Other volunteers patiently fill our need for loving nursery care, "floating" (moving among the classes to offer help as needed), and leading a youth group. With such dedicated adults, we strive to reflect the warmth and generosity natural to all children.

We're continuing to find ways youth and children can participate upstairs. We encourage any child who feels inspired to actively participate in the first part of the worship service; Ringing the bell, Lighting the chalice (with or without a parent), Playing the prelude, or Accompanying a hymn are all options that can be arranged. Please let us know if any child or youth has interest in participation in the service.
