First Annual UUCC Fun Weekend Retreat

Date and Location:

Our retreat is planned for Friday August 16 starting any time after 4:00 you can get there, to Sunday the 18, with checkout at noon. We will share a lunch from leftovers at a shelter after we leave the Group Camp.

Location is Versailles State Park, Laughery Group Camp just outside of Versailles, Indiana. The camp is about a 1 3/4 hour drive from Brownsburg. http://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/2963.htm See Google Map info at the bottom.

Get your Registration in!

We realize that it is early, but if you are planning to go to the retreat, please sign up in the next two weeks! Group Camps Cancellation Policy is that there is a $100 cancellation fee up to 91 days before the reservation date. After that if we cancel we loose the first night ($240.00). The reservation is in Annie's name and Anne and Annie have agreed to split the cost if we do not get enough people signed up to go. We are willing to risk loosing $50 each, but not $120 each. If we do not have close to 30 UUCC members, friends and family registered by May 2nd, we will open registration to other UU congregations. If we do not have 30 by May 14th, we will cancel the retreat.

So please get your registration in soon! We want this to be a UUCC event where we enjoy one an-others company in a relaxed setting! We've proven that we work together great -- this is a great opportunity to show how well we play together!

Heat Bail policy

Remembering how hot it was last summer, we are concerned about 100+ temperature during the time we plan to be at retreat. So we are offering that anyone can decide not to go, and get all of their money back except $16 of the $40 adult fees. So 2 adults and 2 kids, one over 10, would have paid $105.00 for the retreat ($40 + $40 + $25), and if they decided not to go because of the heat, we will refund $73.00. The $16 per adult will allow us to pay for the 2 nights at the camp, and the rest of the reservation was for food, which we won't be spending if a person does not come. This offer will only be good until The Wednesday before the retreat, as Thursday we need to start buying food.

Schedule:

Friday:

Eat dinner on the way down or bring something to snack on or eat at the camp. Gatehouse closes at 11:00 pm, but there is no gate, so you can still drive in.

Saturday:

Breakfast will be from 7:30 to 8:30 am

We are currently planning to have two sessions of playshops (like workshops, but more fun), from 9:00 am to 10:30 am, and from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm.

Lunch will start shortly after 12:30 pm, until around 1:30 pm.

The afternoon (1:30 pm to 6:00 pm) will be free time for hiking, boating, fishing, volleyball, visiting, playing with kids, whatever your heart desires.

From 7:15 pm to 7:45 pm will be free time.

We will gather around 8:00 pm for a music jam and sing-a-long, or you can find other activities. Sunset will be about 8:35 pm and twilight about 9:00 pm (they come that way, we didn't schedule them).

Sunday:

Breakfast will be from 7:30 to 8:30 am

After breakfast will be cleanup and packup. In addition to the cabins we must clean the recreation hall and dining hall/kitchen. Checkout is 12:00 noon.

Sunday Lunch -- We will have a shelter reserved where we will have a short service and then and eat leftovers for lunch. You will be welcome to spend the rest of the day at the park if you would like!

Playshops

So far we have a Tai Chi class (Amy Hayden), either a writing or a knitting playshop by April, a drumming playshop by Mike Clement, and a short Volleyball 101 class by Annie. We will have stencils and paint available if anyone wants to bring white T-Shirts or other items to stencil onto. And we may have a bird walk early in the morning. We are looking for more "playshops", so if you have ideas, please let Anne or Annie know.

Facilities

Group Camp:

Twelve sleeping cabins that sleep 10 each in single beds. We may assign a men's cabin and a women's cabin if enough single men and/or women sign up. We may also assign a men's, and a women's snorer's cabin, depending on need.

Bath house with restroom facilities including showers (stalls)

Large dining hall with a commercial kitchen, as well as a large grill outside the dining hall.

Large recreation hall in case of rain.

In addition to the restrooms and shower stalls in the bath house, there are restrooms in the Recreation building and the dining hall.

Fire Pit.

The buildings were built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the thirties, and have been modernized.

Park:

The park has 5988 acres with a 230 acre lake and has paddle boats, rowboats, kayaks and canoes for rent.

Fishing requires an Indiana fishing license. THERE IS A LARGE POOL WITH A WATER SLIDE. The group camp is adjacent to the dam. Hiking, mountain biking and fossil hunting are other possibilities. We will have a quality volleyball setup.

Retreat Costs:

Cost for adults will be $40, for children from 10 to 18 the cost will be $25, and 9 and younger will be free. If you are uncertain of your ability to go because of financial difficulties, please contact Annie or Anne and we will make arrangements for assistance.

Food

Attendees will prepare food and clean up -- volunteer sheets for all meals will be put up several weeks ahead of the event on the bulletin board downstairs at the church, with signup slots for cooking and cleaning up. Food is designed to be easy to prepare. Each adult should only need to volunteer for one food prep or one cleanup. Exact menu is still being determined, but will include vegetarian (and upon request, gluten-free) options.
